Far more than a simple instrument, it is a travel companion through the meanders of spirit and soul, transcending time and space.

Today, I wish to share with you the magic and power of this sacred instrument, my shamanic drum.

The Spirit of the Skin

When my hands graze its taut skin, I feel life vibrating beneath my fingers.

The skin, often that of an animal offered in tribute, is imbued with the very essence of nature. It carries within it the memory of prairies crossed, caressing winds and singing rivers.

Close your eyes and listen.

The first contact of my hand on the drum is gentle, almost timid. The skin of the instrument, stretched and alive, responds with a lightness that evokes the first glimmers of dawn.

The sounds begin to mingle with the night breeze, bearers of mysteries and promises.

The Language of the Drum

As my fingers caress the taut skin, a subtle energy awakens.

The beats begin, at first timid, like the first drops of a beneficial rain. Each strike is a star being born, each vibration a wave crossing worlds.

It is a language without words, a poetry in motion, an intimate conversation with the invisible.

Then the cadence quickens, becomes a wild dance that awakens your sleeping senses. Feel the soft but insistent pulsation resonating in your chest.

It crosses the earth and rises in a spiral to unite with the stars. The drum reminds you that we are all connected, from roots to heavens, from ancestors to our descendants.

Let the rhythm envelop you like a warm blanket. Each beat resonates like a call, an invitation to dive deeper within yourself.

The drum is the keeper of your stories, of your fears and your hopes. It speaks the language of the earth, that of forests, rivers and mountains.

Feel the endless steppes of Siberia, swept by an icy wind. There, in the heart of the polar night, a shaman dances to the sound of the drum, their soul rising with the spirits, riding a reindeer to journey into other worlds. They seek healing for their community, a word of wisdom to light the long winter nights.

Dive into the deep forests of the Amazon, where the air is heavy with humidity and the scent of unknown flowers. The curandero, the healer, speaks the language of plants. They know that every leaf, every root, every vine is a spirit with a story to tell, a secret to share. They listen to nature to restore the lost harmony between the world of humans and the world of forest spirits.

Let yourself be captivated by the red deserts of Australia, beneath a sky studded with stars we will never see. The Elders trace the paths of the Dreaming on the sand, linking the time of origins to the present, and the visible to the invisible. Every step is a prayer. Every song, a cartography of the world’s soul.

Thus the origins of shamanism extend like immense roots, invisible and deep, connecting people and their beliefs across time and space.

Shamanism does not ask to be understood before being approached. It simply asks that we stop. That we listen. It teaches us that we are not separate from nature, but that we are a part of it. That every animal, every plant, every stone carries a consciousness and a wisdom to offer.
